Role:
Designing for Hardcore Fans
This wasn’t just a licensed mouse. It was a piece of gear that felt like it dropped in-game. We sold out multiple times and built a partnership with Blizzard that lasted years. Gamers still talk about this one.
The Challenge
MMO players needed better tools, and something that felt like it belonged in the game. Most branded gear was just a skin. We wanted to build something that looked and worked like an actual part of the WoW world.

The Work
The design intent for this product, make it look and feel like an extension of the game world on to your desk. We pulled design cues from in-game assets, runes, armor, lighting, and built them into the product and the box. Everything felt like loot. And the product worked. It wasn’t just a nod to the world, it fit in it.
My Role
Designed the 14-button MMO mouse
Led the design for the visual identity, packaging, UI and campaign assets
Worked with Blizzard on in-game integration
Managed Licensed stakeholder's reviews and approvals
Product demos at the BlizzCon events
The Result
It sold out. Multiple times. It also secured a long-term partnership between SteelSeries and Blizzard. We did 3 more versions of this product aligned with the games new expansions.
My Take
This one taught me how to build for immersion. it was storytelling through objects. This product solved gameplay needs while honoring the world players loved. It became a gold standard for licensed peripherals.
